-As a South-Westerner, I am not spoiled with a lot of snow and stable skiing conditions. That is why it is amazing to come to Valdres and see how stable the weather can be. It is very practical when it snows one evening, and you know that there will be snow outside the next day. I have all too often experienced that the snow has disappeared overnight at home, but it does not here.
-The most beautiful thing is when the snow lies like a sparkling blanket on the ground. The trees are covered with snow, the sky is blue like the color of the thermometer. There is only untouched terrain in front of you, and your job is to make tracks. That's when you can talk about winter adventures.
-There are incredible opportunities for cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding and telemark skiing both on and off the slopes.
Highlight:
-Atmospheric ski trip at 8:00-10:30 PM in the evening. The thermometer showed minus 10 degrees and there was fresh snow covering the entire landscape. The snow creaked under my skis as I slid forward. And best of all, the stars and a beautiful full moon lit up the entire terrain where I was walking. It was great!
-A day on the ski slopes with sun and clear weather. The snowfall last night has meant that a 10 cm layer of snow lies over the trodden trails in the ski lift. As you slide down, you feel how you float on top of the delicious powder snow. It's magical to be on a telemark.
John Smits, meteorologist, stated in Valdresmagasinet in 2007: "The Valdres region is blessed with better weather on average than is normal in many other places in southern Norway... I think several of my meteorologist colleagues who have chosen Valdres as a cabin area have done so after sneaking a peek at the weather statistics we have access to at work."
