The Good Old Days - stories from the 20th century

Valdres is notorious for its stable, snow-sure and sunny winters. Valdres Folkehøgskole is one of the few folkehøgskole in Norway that was founded in the nineteenth century (1899) and is still in operation. Over 10,000 students have attended Valdres Folkehøgskole. There are an incredible number of fantastic young people! Much has changed, but the reasons have not changed; they have chosen Valdres because of an exciting range of courses, a good social environment in a climate that is fun to be outdoors in and new friendships that you will have for life!

The photos below give a taste of life as it was in the 1940s and 1950s.

Bjarne Glimsdal in a white knitted sweater. This was the only sweater that Bjarne owned. At that time, it took personal effort to acquire such a sweater. He traveled by bus, train and even on foot up to Gudbrandsdalen, which was a valley rich in sheep with lots of wool. He filled his backpack with enough wool for a sweater! His grandmother carded and spun the wool, and an unknown girl knitted the sweater for Bjarne. We are of course interested in who this girl is!

Erling Lima and Jens Elton. The picture was probably not shown to the principal for security reasons. Erling and Bjarne (the boy in the white sweater) were friends for life.
