Economy

Some people think that folk high schools are expensive, but it is significantly cheaper to live in a boarding house at a folk high school than to live in a dormitory and pay for your own food.

Included in the fixed price are: All activities*, transportation, domestic and international travel, teaching materials, internet, electricity and water, white goods, washing machines, all meals and a roof over your head. (Salaries for teaching staff are not covered by you as a student)

Use of shared equipment such as tents, primus, canoes, climbing equipment, kites and paragliders, and more, is included in the price.

You must purchase personal equipment such as a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpack, skis and snowboards and the like yourself.

For many students, this is the first time they have been responsible for an amount of money in the order of NOK 100,000. As a school, we want control of personal finances to be an area of mastery and provide predictability for both students and parents/guardians. That is why we provide a fixed price, a clear payment plan and personal follow-up.

* On the Xsports-New Zealand lines you can choose to bungee jump and skydive. Experience has shown that not all students want to do this, and these activities must therefore be paid for separately. Approximately NOK 1,500 per jump. On Safari X this applies to skydiving.

** In addition, an annual pass to Valdres Alpine Center costs approximately NOK 2,900 (at Sports - Piste - South Africa, an annual pass is recommended since there is a lot of activity on the slopes). *

*** In addition, students at Aktiv Bo og fritid - Europa must pay for:
Extra teaching resource and student assistant (2-teacher system) NOK 590,000
The current school, workplace, parents/guardians and/or municipality are responsible for applying for funds for the additional expenses on the course (usually NAV is applied for). Students on a tailored course are eligible for double state support. This must be reported to NAV when applying for support.

An enrollment fee of NOK 2950 is paid when you confirm your school place upon admission.

School fees are paid in the following way:
An advance payment of NOK 10,000 is due on July 1. This is earmarked for study trips abroad.

The remainder, depending on your line choice, can be divided into two installments and paid on August 26 and January 16, or can be divided into 9 installments:

Single rooms cost NOK 5,000 in addition to the total price.

If you withdraw from the school place after August 1, you must pay 6 weeks of tuition fees, 36 school days, which amounts to approximately NOK 30,000. On the Active Living and Leisure – Europe line, you must pay for 12 weeks of the tuition fee basis. The amount will be approximately NOK 99,000.

Procedures for non-payment of school fees

If the payment plan is not followed, an alternative payment plan must be agreed in advance with the dormitory manager. If payment is not received within 14 days of the payment deadline, the student will be called for an interview with the principal. If payment is not received within 1 month of the payment deadline, it normally leads to expulsion.

Diet

If you have allergies or an illness that requires a special diet, we will be happy to accommodate you. This may incur additional dietary costs. Please contact the kitchen manager when you arrive at the school to make an arrangement for a special diet, if this is not made clear in your application.
