Mountain sports in Patagonia – a world-class adventure
Patagonia is one of the wildest and most spectacular mountain regions on the planet. Here jagged peaks, enormous glaciers, turquoise lakes and endless mountain ranges meet – a landscape that feels both raw, magnificent and completely different from anything else. Traveling here is not just a trip, it is a true adventure.
On the Mountain Sports, Patagonia – Climbing and Skiing line we travel to Northern Patagonia. There we will do a road trip and visit various cities, villages and national parks. Both through Argentina and Chile, you will experience parts of Patagonia as they are meant to be experienced: on foot in the mountains, on ropes on the cliffs, rafting on the river and on horseback in the valleys. We go on trips in iconic areas, exploring valleys, glaciers, lakes and mountain walls. Always surrounded by nature that takes your breath away. This trip is not just about seeing the nature in Patagonia. We want to be close to it. We want to feel the forces of nature.
It will be a combination of day trips and multi-day trips. One trip is a hut-to-hut trip in the mountains. There we walk in an alpine landscape with high mountain passes and views of lagoons. We sleep in old unique stone huts, and cook good food together. The other multi-day trip is a packraft/rafting trip on the Eleven. There we float down with the current, surrounded by large mountains, glaciers and sandy beaches. Swimming, fishing and enjoying life. Quite special!
The day trips will include days of climbing, rafting, sea kayaking, diving, horseback riding, volcano tours, puma safaris and more! After many days in the mountains, we will end our trip at the coast where we enjoy some beach life, surfing and good food before heading home to Norway!
In addition to many great trips and activities, there will be room for other experiences and days with a slower pace! Patagonia is not just about achievement, but about being present in nature, feeling mastery and sharing strong experiences with others. We will meet local people, take part in their culture and feel the differences from our life here in Norway. There will be exciting food experiences, and guaranteed new dishes you have not tasted before!
This is the trip for those who dream of fantastic nature, a real adventure and memories that will last a lifetime.
Alps - Austria - Schladming
Valdres Folk High School has unique study trips. One of them is the trip to Austria and the Czech Republic. This trip goes together with several classes at the school. Together we get on the bus and drive down to Austria!
In Austria we stay at the Taurnhof. It is located in the middle of the ski resort of Schladming, 20 meters from the gondola. Lace up your boots, stroll across the street and take the gondola up to over 1500 meters in altitude. The Tauernhof has ski and snowboard instructors from several places in the world. They live with us throughout your stay. These instructors have local knowledge that gives you the opportunity to explore hidden gems and secret spots where the powder skiing is absolutely magical.
Experience the pure joy of hurtling down snowy mountain slopes, powder skiing and moments of pure joy. On this trip you will quickly develop your skiing skills while creating memories together with the rest of your good friends.
After a day of skiing, a delicious dinner awaits, followed by an evening gathering filled with laughter and fellowship where you can share stories and experiences from the day. For many, this is a highlight of the day.
But eventually the journey must continue – we travel to Prague in the Czech Republic. We look forward to exploring the city's streets, architecture and culture. In good company we look around the city and relax after several days of skiing.

I am Kjetil and I am a mountain sports instructor. I look forward to being with you in the mountains. Both with skis, climbing harnesses and crampons. Together with the class we will explore the mountains, develop skills for safe travel in the mountains and create memories for life.
I am an associate professor with additional education with a bachelor's degree in sports and outdoor activities, practical-pedagogical education and religious studies. Many courses in avalanche science, climbing and skiing.

How to finance your school year?
Some people think that folk high schools are expensive, but it is significantly cheaper to live in a boarding house at a folk high school than to live in a dormitory and pay for your own food. See the calculation example below:
