Travel
Himalayas - Nepal - Everest Basecamp
Join us on a trek among the world's highest mountains! The goal is Everest Basecamp and the mountain Kala Patar. Walk along the old paths and roads into the world of the Sherpas. To reach the goal, cars or buses are not an option. Along the route we are taking, there is no road and the only way to get from village to village is on foot. Horses and eventually yaks are the only thing besides legs that will work here!
Such a trip is a unique opportunity to experience thin air, gaze up at the world's highest mountain, Mt. Everest, and experience the Sherpa culture up close!
We want to give something back to the people when we are allowed to use the land. Join us in helping children and youth as part of the trip. We support orphanages with help with renovations, books, education and food.
The good feeling
In the fall there will be mountains, forests and water. Glacier hikes and summit hikes on foot in Jotunheimen, among Norway's 2000 meter peaks. From the quiet, calm and good feeling by the campfire, among good friends to getting a helping hand up the last steep hill before you reach the top.
Vertical focus
We will also try climbing, rappelling, mountain biking and river rafting. It's all about playing as a team with gravity, nature, balance and the others in the class!
Close to nature
Valdres Folk High School is in a fantastic location for the activities we will be doing! With Jotunheimen, Hemsedalsfjellene and Stølsvidda as playgrounds, it is a short drive away. The Flaggfjell climbing area is just a 5-minute walk from the school, and with a large bouldering room at the school, we will spend our days well!
Finance and costs
How to finance your school year?
Some people think that folk high schools are expensive, but it is significantly cheaper to live in a boarding house at a folk high school than to live in a dormitory and pay for your own food. See the calculation example below:
