ACTIVE LIVING AND LEISURE

ALL ABOUT LINE

Line for young people who need adapted education. The line has 8 student places and is for those who eventually want to move into their own home. Here you live in your own room in the boarding house and through that, practice becoming more independent. Some of the teaching on the line is subjects such as health and diet, laundry and laundry, economics, sports and games, outdoor activities, cooking, creative activities, social media, building friendships and active use of free time.

Development and physical activity

Here at the school we want you to develop more aspects of yourself in a community with other young people of the same age. We also emphasize activities where we use the nature around us. Therefore, it is great if you enjoy hiking in the forest, fields and mountains and that you enjoy skiing. Physical activity and coping are a central part of the program, with opportunities for cycling, swimming, climbing, snow cave tours, skiing and horseback riding, among other things.
The students participate in the Knights' Race at Beitostølen. Linja participates in the joint trips with the rest of the school, and has her own class trip to Europe.

New friends

This year you will become part of a large community that wants to give you security and social competence. You will have the opportunity to make new friends, new challenges, become more independent and participate in electives with other students at the school.
You will receive personal support from a teacher on the course.

Pedagogical approach

Valdres Folkehøgskole is one of the schools with the longest experience with inclusion and remedial training for students with various disabilities. Our belief is that diversity is an enrichment and a source of increased understanding of each other.

All Aktiv Fritidstudents participate in electives, some core subjects, meals and social activities in the evenings in a bustling environment with 140 young people and we place great emphasis on mastery and participation. The fact that we share these common arenas creates acceptance and joy of difference. This model develops the living space for everyone, and creates an involvement that is equally strong every year to be a part of.

The employees

We have teachers and staff with extensive experience and the necessary expertise. In addition to extensive experience, we see that being met and seen is perhaps the most important thing for growth and increased independence.

Statement from Cecilie Willoch, mother:

My son Philip, who has special needs, attended Valdres folkehøgskole in 2016-2017. This is what he says himself: "I had a fantastic year at the folkehøgskole."

As a mother, I must add that I have rarely seen such a willingness and ability to lift up a group and make everyone feel like one big group. My son had an unforgettable year thanks to the teachers, the tutors and his fellow students.

Students on this course can apply to NAV for training funds. The following is stated in the National Insurance Act:

§ 10 - 6. Benefits for improving functional ability in daily life.

"When a member has had his or her ability to function in daily life significantly and permanently impaired due to illness, injury or disability, benefits are provided; pursuant to paragraph 10-7.

The benefit is provided in connection with measures that are necessary and appropriate to improve the member's functional ability in daily life or to enable the person concerned to be cared for at home."

§ 10-7 Forms of benefits

"A member who meets the conditions in paragraph 10-6 may also be granted grants for training measures."

Training measures

Support may be provided for accommodation at a folk high school if the stay is necessary and appropriate as part of the member's development of personal independence in order to manage the tasks of daily life. Grants may be provided for necessary expenses for accommodation and training that exceed ordinary accommodation and living expenses at the school.

The student/guardian must apply to NAV and the application must include:

- Admission letter from the school

- Professional statement about the student's qualifications and needs to attend folk high school. (This can be from medical or educational professionals who know the student.) Applicants to this program usually have an individual plan in their home municipality and their own coordinator. The coordinator normally has a key role in facilitating a stay at folk high school.

It is possible to apply from September 1st for this line and admissions are made on an ongoing basis until the line is filled.

The program requires financial resources from your home municipality, NAV, county council or others.
