Poverty has been reduced by 50% since the turn of the millennium. This has happened because many people around the world have contributed with gifts and political pressure. God has created enough resources for all people on earth to live dignified lives without poverty. It is a question of distribution. YWCA-YMCA Global has a program together with the worldwide YWCA-YMCA movement that has as its goal: Zero poverty by 2030.
To achieve this, we have 3 main focuses:
1. Young people need to have livelihoods and income: together we create savings groups and viable businesses owned and run by young people that help them out of poverty.
2. Young people must have access to public services (school, health, water, etc.). Together we train local corruption hunters who reveal if any public funds are not used to produce welfare. This is a simple system called "Public Expenditure Tracking" and is very effective in revealing and stopping corruption.
3. Young people need their state to have good revenues and good framework conditions for development. Together with our global KM movement, we are putting pressure on states, the UN and multinational corporations to take greater political action to ensure the structural changes needed to eradicate poverty: sustainable climate, fair trade, debt cancellation of illegitimate debt, fair tax policies (which ensure that big companies pay a fair tax in poor countries), etc.
Join us in the world's largest social movement. It's fun and meaningful. We're changing the world. You can be part of something historic! In 20 years, we will have made poverty history. Join us!
